Finished dark-tile pool with lounge chairs and umbrellas on a stone deck
Hardscape and masonry

Bring the whole space together.

The deck, the walls and the places to sit and cook — planned with the pool, so the whole yard works as one.

Around the water.

Three kinds of work that shape the space around a pool.

Pool decks, pavers and coping

The surface you walk on and the edge where it meets the water. Pavers or concrete for the deck, and coping to finish the edge.

After: Finished pool with a natural-stone accent wall and three tiled water scuppers.

Retaining walls and stonework

Walls that hold a slope or frame the pool, and stonework that gives the water a backdrop.

After: finished rectangular pool with decorative Talavera-style waterline tile, a paver patio and a raised wood platform at the water's edge

Barbecue areas and firepits

Places to cook and sit, built as part of the same project as the pool.

What we talk through.

The space around a pool is planned in person, on your property.

  • LayoutWhere the deck, walls and seating go.
  • CirculationHow people move between house, pool and yard.
  • MaterialsWhat the deck, coping and walls are made of.
  • DrainageWhere water goes — a point we plan for on every site.
  • The connection to the poolHow this work fits with the pool project itself.

Planned with your pool.

Hardscape and masonry are part of a pool project — a remodel or a new pool.

Good to know.

Can hardscape be combined with pool work?

Yes. Deck, walls and accessories are planned together with the remodel or the new pool, so the trades are coordinated in one project.

How do we choose materials?

We talk through materials in person during the estimate visit, looking at your property and at what you have in mind.

Do you take on hardscape separately from a pool project?

The hardscape and masonry described here are planned as part of a pool remodel or new pool: decks, coping, walls, stonework, barbecue areas and firepits. Include your outdoor-space ideas when discussing the pool so the connection between the water and the yard is part of the scope.

What should I show you at the hardscape estimate visit?

Point out the routes between the house, pool and yard, where you want seating or cooking areas, and any slopes or drainage concerns. Bring material and layout ideas, and explain what existing features you want to keep. These are the planning points to work through on your property.
